The Cyclones boys’ cross country team came away with an overwhelming victory over Spring Hill and Louisburg on the hills of their own home course just South of Ottawa on Eisenhower Road, while the girls’ team ran away with some impressive times of their own.

Led by Ottawa senior Travis Lutz, the boys’ team swept the top six places out of 32 runners overall. Lutz won the race with a time of 18:46.87. Junior Alexander Walters finished second, running a 19:04.06. Walters was followed closely behind by teammate Noah White, also a junior, who finished third with a time of 19:08.63.

Alec Rodriguez, D’suan Gomez, and Ryan Keiter (placing fourth [19:18.34], fifth [19:20.45], and sixth [19:28.38] respectively) rounded out the top pack of Cyclone runners, while Triston Saavedra finished just behind in 11th place with a time of 20:32.28. The Cyclone boys finished first in the meet, defeating Frontier league schools Spring Hill and Louisburg, posting an impressive 33 second split between their first and fifth runners (point-scoring runners).

In the girls’ 5K race, sophomore Samantha Atchley finished fourth out of 17 runners with a time of 25:30.60, while junior Justine Kennington finished sixth with a time of 25:53.17.
