On Halloween, people say “trick or treat” to get candy, but some candy is more of a trick than a treat. It is a completely personal preference, but there is some candy that the majority of kids just don’t like. Reasons? Texture, flavor or size. It’s candy corn for some. Black licorice? Yuck. Raisins? Not even a candy.

Even though kids tend to not like this kind of candy, it still gets bought and handed out. One possible reason is that the candy comes in a variety pack. Another possible reason could be that the person who bought it liked that candy as a kid, and thought other kids would like it too. For instance, if someone handed out Peeps, Nick Christian [11] would not be pleased.

“Peeps are my least favorite candy because there’s a texture on the outside and another on the inside, and it messes with my tongue,” Christian said.

But what about candy that teens do love? This candy can range anywhere from soft and chocolatey to hard and sour, so it can be tricky to decide what to buy.

Here are the top 5 best and top 5 worst candies to buy for Halloween according to a 2017 poll.

Best 5:

5. 100 Grand

4. Twix

3. Snickers

2. Reese’s Peanut Butter cups

1. Kit-Kat.

Worst 5:

5. Twizzlers

4. Dum Dums

3. Bit O’ Honey

2. Any type of gum

1. Necco Wafers.

“Wait, why are Dum Dums on this list,” Jackson Murphy [10] said. “Dum Dums are great.”

“Black licorice should be on this list,” Riley Titus [9] said, “not Twizzlers.”

When it comes to buying candy, keep in mind what types of candy kids like, not just the cheapest thing or the biggest bag. Don’t be the person that gives out bad candy. Be thoughtful.
